The energy exchange pump is a critical compoent of the Ravashol pulsar lens system.
After agreeing to help Apollo's team destroy the pulsar, Doctor Ravashol instructs Apollo to destroy the energy exchange pump, which would cause the pulsar to destroy itself (The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part II).
