TOS Separation for Cylons[edit]

The Cylons of TOS have a rich history that deserves its own article and namespace. Therefore, I've made it. I will also create a disambig page for "Cylon" which will point people to either this page or the current Cylon page, which will be moved to Cylons (RDM) per standards policy. My Bad--Article Revision/Content Check[edit]

Way back before I understood the significance of GDFL and CC licensing, I filled in this page based on information from Wikipedia. We will need to rewrite this article if recent edit history hasn't already changed enough of it so that it is no longer a derivative article as we cannot use GDFL content here. I placed the delete tag on temporarily so we don't forget to ensure this article is GDFL-content-free. I'll be reviewing the edit history and also await discussion. --Spencerian 17:16, 23 January 2006 (EST)

This might be a perfect candidate for the "possible copyright infringement" template that we never seem to use. Though I'll grant the Candidates for Deletion is a lot more heavily patrolled. --Steelviper 17:19, 23 January 2006 (EST)
I've started a user subpage where I'll begin gathering canonical information regarding the Cylons. Hopefully before too long I'll have enough material to rewrite this from scratch, avoiding the whole copyright issue altogether. --Steelviper 09:03, 30 January 2006 (EST)

After the rewrite is done...[edit]

Since the history files have the GFDL Wikipedia version, I am probably going to have to delete the whole history of this article. Therefore, once the rewrite is done, I'll delete the page and move the Cylons (TOS)/rewrite to the Cylons (TOS) namespace. Just FYI. -- Joe Beaudoin 11:47, 14 February 2006 (EST)

Yeah, that was my bad. I'll mop up and clean the kitchen as penance when the rewrite is done. --Spencerian 13:32, 14 February 2006 (EST)
Should we worry about other pages that held copyright violations in the past? --April Arcus 19:01, 14 February 2006 (EST)
We might as well. Other than the Lorne Greene page, I don't know of any others. -- Joe Beaudoin 19:09, 14 February 2006 (EST)
I was thinking of Basestar (TOS). --April Arcus 13:09, 17 February 2006 (EST)
Wow. A lot of the info about the armament, Raider capacity, etc, comes from The Hand of God (TOS). I'll have to pull that episode up and incorporate some of the info from Tigh's briefing into the basestar article. --Steelviper 13:19, 17 February 2006 (EST)

Questionable Information[edit]

This article had a mismatch (from an encyclopedic POV) of data that inappropriately contrasted itself to the RDM world. I removed it just to keep the topic on-topic. There are plenty of cross reference links here for others who are interested in the RDM world. It shouldn't be a requirement for readers to know of (or care about) the RDM world in TOS topics unless marked to the end of the article for trivia (as with the new Pegasus (RDM) design and the old battlestars), when a common term is used in both series (such as tylium), or when disambiguation is needed at the start of the article (such as Baltar (TOS)).

I was also very confused with the additions that implied that all Cylons were now robotic. Rather than ask for a source for this, I removed it and reset the Imperious Leader info to being a reptilian, as I believed that all original Cylons were these beings, not robots. If someone wants to readd it, a source is needed. --Spencerian 13:04, 6 June 2006 (CDT)

Aren't they all robotic? "The machines took over and exterminated the reptiles thousands of yahrens ago, but they still call them Cylons." (paraphrased from Saga of a Star World). The fact that the voice of the imperious leader exactly matched Count Iblis was another "clue" mentioned in War of the Gods that tied Iblis to the original robotic revolution (and makes it more likely that a living reptile wouldn't have a voice identical to the "evil being of light thing"). --Steelviper 13:33, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
