This is a project covering the use of audio clips from the Battlestar Galactica series.

Usage

Audio clips should be used sparingly, due to the following:

  1. Fair use.
    • Due to U.S. copyright laws governing fair use, each clip must have a purpose and use on Battlestar Wiki. If the clip is unused, it will be deleted within 14 days.
  2. Space and bandwidth.
    • Technical limits should be considered as well. While we don't want to skimp on content, we don't want to overburden our servers or bandwidth with this content either. Thus, a balance must be achived.

Criteria

The following are where the audio clips work best:

  • Quotes from episodes listed under the "Noteworthy Dialogue" section of the episode guide.
  • Sound effects and audio pertinent to articles.
  • Pronunciation of unique names to help the IPA pronunication notes on certain pages. For instance, "centon", "sectar", "frak", et al.

Formatting and Style

Clip Format

All clips should be encoded in MP3 format and should be uploaded to the Battlestar Wiki Media repository.

When capturing clips, note the following:

  • The series, episode and season of said episode.
  • The duration of the clip.
  • Approximate time in the episode where the dialogue or audio in question starts and ends.
    • When noting approximate times, use the tilde (~) character prior to the time notation. Time notation should be in HH:MM:SS.FF.

Style Format

When adding a clip to a page, use {{audio}}. For style and consistency, please refer to the following guidelines laid out below.

Noteworthy Dialogue

Paragraph or multi-person dialogue

The {{audio}} template should be included as part of the description of the dialogue. For instance:

Baltar: The food is yours. It's not a trick. I'm not going to take it away at the last second. You know, I...um...I'm just gonna talk right now. I don't expect you to say anything. Back on Caprica, before the attack—and sometimes I forget there was a world before the attack—I knew someone…a woman, unlike any other woman I'd ever known. She was unique. Beautiful, clever, intensely sensual. When she wasn't in my bed, she was in my thoughts. She was a Cylon. And she changed my life in a very real, very fundamental way in that I have quite literally never stopped thinking about her, because I love her. To this very day, I love her. And she looks exactly like you. My name is Gaius Baltar, and I'm here to help you.

The use of {{audio}} in the instance abvove is achieved by using the following code:

*{{audio|Pegasus - I'm here to help you.mp3|''Speaking to Gina.''}}

One liners and single-person quotes

Another use, for one-line quotes:

* Lt. Gaeta (refering to the Pegasus' library): Got any porn in there?

Which is achieved using {{audio}} in the following fashion:

* '''Lt. Gaeta (refering to the ''Pegasus''' library):'''
{{audio|Pegasus - got any porn in there.mp3|Got any porn in there?}}

In Articles

The {{audio}} template can also be added after the line of dialogue. For instance:

"This is an official Colonial Government broadcast. All ministers and officials should now go to Case Orange. Repeat: This is an official Colonial Government broadcast. All ministers and officials should now go to Case Orange."listen

The following effect is achieved by using {{audio}} in the following way:

– {{audio|Case Orange broadcast.mp3|listen}}
