Discussion page of Template:Separate continuity

Thanks for making this, Shane. I added text to clarify as many people may not know or be confused by our "RDM", "TOS" or "1980" notations here. If this creates a formatting problem with the template, let me know. I'll give it a try on the first comics article as soon as Mercifull has an icon. --Spencerian 19:35, 5 June 2006 (CDT)

I changed the format adding the "qif" template. Keeps it small. --Shane (T - C - E) 07:09, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
Any other ideas for the icon? I'm liking the whole "mirror universe" goatee beard icon but just wanna see other peoples views first. --Mercifull 03:25, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
The "evil" (or more appropriately, opposite) twin in the alternate universe has a goatee. Even in South Park. --Steelviper 07:45, 6 June 2006 (CDT)

Shane, how do you use the template? I tried it in the sandbox. I expected that only the "Y"-selected series name would appear in the template, but that didn't happen. What if there are multiple connections to two series (as the video game is)? --Spencerian 13:14, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
I fixed the issue. It had to do with the qif syntax. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 18:33, 9 June 2006 (CDT)
I always seem to do that. lol. I added the series in the Separate continuity category so everything is kept seperate. --Shane (T - C - E) 18:40, 9 June 2006 (CDT)
Nice update Spenc. --Shane (T - C - E) 17:46, 19 August 2006 (CDT)
Thanks for maintaining this and other templates! --Spencerian 10:14, 20 August 2006 (CDT)

Improved version[edit]

I've created an improved version of this template here. A sandbox for testing this template is here, where you are free to add tests (but please do not remove existing ones).

The changes I made are:

  • Replaced rdm=Y and friends with universe=RDM.
  • Added the universe2 parameter which allows for a second universe to be displayed
  • Rephrased the contents of the infobox
  • Added the cont parameter that displays the name of the continuity in the infobox.
    • Use lcont for an alternate link target

So tell me what you think. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 13:06, 29 June 2007 (CDT)

Looks very good, Catrope...answers a handful of issues. Should be flexible enough. I'd like to try this out on the Battlestar Galactica: Cylon Apocalypse 1 and Battlestar Galactica 1 articles to see how they work. --Spencerian 15:40, 29 June 2007 (CDT)

What do the others think? If it turns out most people favor the new design, you can implement it by copying the full contents of User:Catrope/Template:Separate continuity to Template:Separate continuity (I'll be away for three weeks starting tomorrow, so I'll likely be unable). After that you are free to delete User:Catrope/Template:Separate continuity, but please do NOT delete my sandbox at User:Catrope/Testing Template. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 09:25, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

Looks fine to me. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 09:34, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

<Vaderspeak>Excellent. With this template, we will become the ultimate power in the Battlestar universe. Oh. Wait. We are? Oh. Right, then. Bring me a coffee.</Vaderspeak>.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Spencerian (talk • contribs).
Yeah, I've begun to go through all the articles that include the template; upwards of 250. I've worked my way through most of them, and it's given me a good opportunity to spruce them up a bit, such as conventionizing them and removing the copyvios (namely the old BSG books, where the content was clearly ripped from the now-offline Sheba's Galaxy website). -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 21:17, 5 July 2007 (CDT)
Looks very good; the template makes cross-refs between publishers and universes very nice to do. It really sets off the specifics of the article and its significance without being overly crazy to understand. --Spencerian 16:49, 6 July 2007 (CDT)
This is great news, I had som trouble a while back trying to get the old template to show RDM and TOS both. --BklynBruzer 23:39, 6 July 2007 (CDT)
