Kaitai syndrome is a rare and incurable condition afflicting older Capricans.

The condition erodes the brain's neuro-pathways, resulting in the eventual, complete loss of mental capacities.

Commander Adama is afflicted by this condition in 7347, which results in his transference of command to Apollo and his subsequent cryogenic suspension (War of Eden 1-3).
