The Second Exodus is a term used in official documentation from the Colonial Government to describe the exodus from Cylon-occupied New Caprica (Collaborators). After initial contact with the Galactica, the New Caprica Resistance agree on a time and date far the rescue of 39,000 colonists. Working with Sharon Agathon on the ground, the New Caprica Resistance gets a hold of the launch keys to the grounded civilian vessels and prepares to hit cylon targets across the city.

On Galactica, Adama orders the ship to conduct an intra-atmosphere jump, avoiding the detection on dradis from the basestars in orbit. The use of "second" implies that the First Exodus was the successful escape of civilian ships under the protection of the battlestar Galactica from the worlds of the Twelve Colonies after their destruction in an overwhelming Cylon attack Miniseries.

On the surface, the block captains help guide their groups of civilians to the waiting ships. Pre-instructed pilots are lined up and assigned civilian vessels to pilot off the surface. Blue Squadron provides cover for the quickly escaping civilian vesels as they jump away. In the end not all civilian ships make it, and casualties are estimated to be approximately 2,000. The remaining 37,000 survivors return to the fleet.

It is unclear whether a "First Exodus" refers to the exodus from Kobol over 2,000 years prior, or the flight from the Twelve Colonies after the Cylon attack.

The Exodus in earnest (TRS: "Exodus, Part II").

The Second Exodus is a term used in official Colonial government statements to describe the escape of the human population from Cylon-occupied New Caprica circa 2 ACH (2001BYR) (TRS: "Collaborators").

The use of "second" implies that the First Exodus was the successful escape of civilian ships under the protection of the battlestar Galactica from the worlds of the Twelve Colonies after their destruction in an overwhelming Cylon attack (TRS: "Miniseries", "The Plan").
