New Series

Columbia is a battlestar featuring integrated command and control systems and Dr. Gaius Baltar's Command Navigation Program (CNP). She is reported as lost, along with many battlestars including Solaria and Triton. CPO Tyrol once served on Columbia before being assigned to Galactica ("Resistance").

Notes

  • According to information released by Zoic, Columbia was one of the first five battlestars constructed by the Colonials, the other four being Galactica, Pegasus, Atlantia and Rycon.
    • Zoic's information, however, contradicts aired information. The Battlestar Pegasus shown in the episode "Pegasus" is a Mercury-class battlestar, which is apparently larger, definitely more advanced, and only marginally similar to Galactica. If Zoic's information is correct, this strongly suggests that the original battlestar Pegasus was retired or lost, and an upgraded battlestar was entered into service under that name. This may also be true with Atlantia, since Admiral Nagala took fleet command aboard this battlestar. It is highly unlikely that, unless there were no other battlestars available, that a fleet admiral would command from an original battlestar, upgraded or not.
  • During the opening of the Mini-Series, Aaron Doral states that the Battlestar Galactica is the "last of her kind". This would suggest that:
    • Either the Columbia mentioned later in the mini-series may have been built much later than the original twelve battlestars, possibly as a replacement vessel
    • Doral was simply making a point that the Galactica is the only remaining battlestar with non-integrated systems

The Original Series

According to some fan circles, The Columbia was the class-name given to Galactica-type battlestars. The ship itself was lost some time before the abortive "peace conference" at Cimtar (Gun on Ice Planet Zero).

Notes

Columbia is perhaps the most unlikely name for a space vessel developed by a wholly "alien" culture, being a derivation of the 15th Century Genoan explorer Christopher Columbus - which pushes the bounds of coincidence to their breaking point.
